Ever since Airbus launched its A320 Family, the company’s single-aisle jetliners product line has set the standards as the world’s most comfortable short-to-medium-haul aircraft – which is one of the many reasons why they also are the most successful commercial aircraft of all time.

A320neo Take Off

The cornerstone member of Airbus’ A320 Family

The cornerstone A320 version incorporates a versatile cabin configurable for a variety of seating options, typically accommodating from 140 to 170 passengers, with a maximum capacity of up to 180 travellers.

Orders for more than 8,600 A320s were on Airbus’ order book as of late 2021.

A320 Airspace

A new cabin environment with Airspace

With the widest single-aisle cabin in its class, passengers aboard the A320 enjoy more personal space, wider seats, and generous overhead compartments to store their luggage.

The onboard environment is further enhanced with Airbus’ Airspace cabin, which was first incorporated in the company’s A330 and A350 widebody jetliners.

Airspace includes the following passenger-pleasing cabin enhancements: customisable lighting for a unique welcome during boarding, and which also helps contributes to reducing jet lag while aloft; new slimmer sidewall panels for extra space at passengers’ shoulder level; better views through the windows with redesigned bezels and completely integrated window shades.

The Airspace cabin also incorporates the latest full-LED lighting technologies, along with the largest overhead bin in the single-aisle jetliner category.

For the A320neo, Airbus expanded seating capacity with optimised cabin space and increased exit limits, enabling the jetliner to accommodate up to 194 passengers in a high-density configuration.

A320neo

A320neo: the best is even better

NEO is one of many upgrades introduced by Airbus to maintain its A320 product line’s position as the world’s most advanced and fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft family.

The A320neo brings minimum change with maximum benefit through the availability of two advanced engine choices – Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1100G-JM geared turbofan, and CFM International’s LEAP-1A, both of which provide outstanding operational, economic, and environmental performance.

Also included on the A320neo are Airbus’ SharkletsTM, which were pioneered on the A320ceo version. The 2.4-metre-tall wingtip devices are standard on NEO aircraft, and result in up to 4% reduced fuel burn over longer sectors, corresponding to an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of around 900 tonnes per aircraft. Sharklets are incorporated on new-build aircraft, and also are available for retrofit on the earlier A320ceo jetliners.

Overall, the A320neo delivers 20% fuel savings and CO2 reduction compared to previous-generation Airbus aircraft.

A320neo

Fly-by-wire commonality

The A320 shares the same fly-by-wire digital flight controls and cabin management systems with the other versions in Airbus’ single-aisle aircraft family.

This commonality helps reduce the cost of pilot training and scheduling, while also lowering operations and maintenance costs. A pilot qualified on the A320 can fly any other member of the A320 Family with the Common Type Rating. Their ability to transition to Airbus’ widebody fly-by-wire A330, A350 and A380 aircraft is also even easier with the Cross-Crew-Qualification (CCQ).
